Jeffrey Thomas "Jeff" "Pap" Bamberger, 72, of Cornwall, PA, passed away peacefully at home on May 7, 2026, after a courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia, which began in 2024.
Born in Lebanon, he was the son of the late Franklin Endress Bamberger and Dorothy Elizabeth (Imhof) Bamberger. On July 31, 1982, Jeff married the love of his life, Debra Bamberger, and together they built a life centered around family, hard work, and caring for others.
A 1972 graduate of Cedar Crest High School, Jeff studied auto mechanics through Vo-Tech and worked in the front-end shop at Bamberger's after graduation. In 1978, he became a full-time owner-operator truck driver, hauling freight across the country in his beloved Marmon truck. Driving for Jeff was not just a career, but a deep part of who he was - a source of pride, purpose, and connection, reflected in the community he found on the road and the safety awards he earned throughout his years behind the wheel. He later worked for many years at New Penn Motor Express until retiring in 2019.
Jeff liked to say he could fix anything but a broken heart. He was known for his mechanical skill and for being the person others called when something needed repaired, especially when it came to cars. Those closest to him also knew his softer side - rough working hands paired with a gentle touch, a man who could laugh hard, cry openly, and care deeply for the people around him. He rarely met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone wherever he went.
He played fully and imaginatively with his children and grandchildren, never afraid to be silly or completely present in the moment. Even after long nights of work, he still tried to make it to baseball and softball games whenever he could, as well as family dinners and gatherings. He loved the Phillies fiercely, even while they continued to frustrate him in his final days.
Above all, Jeff was a devoted husband, father, and proud "Pap." He treasured time spent with family, whether traveling together, sharing stories, cheering from the sidelines, or simply being together in the everyday moments. One of his favorite memories was a trip to the South Caucasus with his son, Ben. He also loved riding his motorcycle and staying active throughout his life.
Jeff was a faithful and active member of Lebanon and Lititz Moravian Church, where he volunteered regularly and participated in traditions including candlelight vigils and the Lovefeast. Previously, he was also a member of Quentin United Church of Christ. His faith was a steady source of strength throughout his illness, helping carry him through difficult treatments and an uncertain prognosis with courage and grace. He was deeply grateful for the care and devotion Debra provided throughout his illness and in honoring his wish to spend his final days at home. His faith was often expressed quietly through service, consistency, and care for others.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Debra Bamberger; his children: Jessica (Chris) Styers of Lititz; Benjamin Bamberger (Katie McElvanney) of Lancaster; and Katie Bamberger of Hershey. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, Zachary Styers, Oliver Styers, and Oscar Bamberger, who lovingly knew him as "Pap."
He is also survived by his siblings: Susan (Norman) Dieffenbach of Rexmont; David (Cecilia) Bamberger of South Lebanon; Constance "Connie" (Lorrie) Bamberger of Newmanstown; and Scott (Kathy) Bamberger of Elizabethtown.
Jeff leaves behind memories of laughter, hard work, stubbornness, generosity, humor, and love. He will be remembered not only for the things he repaired, but for the moments of tenderness, kindness, and care he shared with those closest to him.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jeff's memory to the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute through the Lancaster General Hospital Foundation, or to Lititz Moravian Church: Lancaster General Hospital Foundation: Gifts in Memory or to
